Counselling in Stansted, Bishop's Stortford, and Online

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What Happens During Our First Appointment?

You are invited to meet me at my cosy practice room in Birchanger, or speak to me online if you prefer. I then give you the opportunity to talk about what is going on for you in any way that feels right. There is no judgement here. I will always listen closely and give you unconditional positive regard at all times.

Is Counselling Confidential?

Yes, apart from a few extreme exceptions. This is your ‘safe space’ – a strictly private environment in which to speak as freely as you like without worrying about judgement or repercussions. You can be totally safe in the knowledge that the information you give won’t be disclosed. Nothing you say ever leaves this room!

How Do I Know If I Need Counselling?

Counselling is suitable for people with a range of issues, such as depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship issues, bereavement, or any other issue – both recurring and one off – that you feel burdened by. I can offer a more counselling-based approach, giving you a space to express your emotions once a week, along with providing solution-based help or longer-term psychotherapy for more complex, deeply rooted mental health issues.

How Long Does Each Session Last?

All sessions last 50 minutes.

Can I Speak to You Before My Appointment?

Of course! You are free to give me a call for a quick chat before we agree on a time for a session. If I don’t answer your call, I’m most likely with a client, but I will call back and arrange a slot for you as soon as possible. You can use this call to ask any questions and see whether you’d feel comfortable going forward.

How Often Should I Have Sessions?

Generally, I see clients on a weekly basis. If you are in a particularly urgent situation, I can work in two sessions a week. On the other hand, some may feel like fortnightly sessions are sufficient. It is very much up to you.

How Do I Pay for Counselling Sessions?

I accept payment by cash or bank transfer. If you need to cancel our session, I require 24 hours’ notice, by email or phone. If notice is not given in this timescale, you will have to pay for the session.

I know that reaching out for help isn’t easy to do, but making that first leap is so important. I am here to give you a completely confidential, safe space to receive counselling in Stansted, Bishop's Stortford, or online that suits you.
