Relationship Rut

Couples who care about each other may quite easily realise that they have drifted into a rut, an awareness that their relationship has become a routine which has become unproductive, leaving one partner or both feeling somewhat unfulfilled. The awareness may only occur after a period of time when the habit or repetitive routine has become entrenched and accepted as normal, even though it may not actually be welcome. It can be a conclusion one of the partners, comes to, when they are feeling unloved or criticised or even deceived.

The awareness that work/children/parents/hobbies/colleagues are receiving the 'best' of your partner and that the increasing feeling of dissatisfaction begins to seep into the relationship, betraying displays of resentment and indications of low self worth.

Throughout relationship counselling, the value of the relationship is the focus, without judgement or blame. This approach opens the channels of communication to ensure each partner is heard, listened to and understood..

Reflecting on the relationship with oneself, ones values and self care all contribute to paying careful attention to those areas which are important to us.

In the relationship counselling sessions we explore the above to evaluate what our relationship means to us and what we wish for ourselves going forwards. Busy family lifestyles challenge us to pay attention to what is important to us. Reviewing and reframing can shift the focus from a negative perspective to a positive healthy one.
